Alexandra Philipsen, MD

RESEARCH GROUP LEADER

Alexandra Philipsen, MD, is Director and Professor of the Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy, University of Bonn. Since 2021, she is also Deputy Medical Director of the University Hospital Bonn. She underwent training as a clinical psychiatrist at the Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy, University Freiburg. Moreover, she is supervisor for cognitive behaviour therapy and dialectical behaviour therapy. Her main scientific focus is on translational therapy research on attention and emotion regulation- especially ADHD in adults and borderline personality disorder. She is very interested in further improving psychotherapy for adults with ADHD. In order to further develop behavioural interventions that are as precise as possible in terms of precision psychiatry and psychotherapy she is interested in deep behavioural phenotyping of adult ADHD. Her expertise includes in particular the development and evaluation of pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments including digital tools as well as to develop and conduct clinical trials. In addition to her management function and medical duties in the clinic, she is therefore principal investigator and co-leader of several studies and clinical trials. Besides that she is (co-)author of numerous research papers as well as book contributions and active in a range of national and international networks and organisations (e.g. The European College of Neuropsychopharmacology (ECNP), German Association for Psychiatry, Psychotherapy and Psychosomatics (DGPPN), Board member of the university professors of psychiatry (LIPPs)).

Will Norton

RESEARCH GROUP LEADER

Will Norton completed a BSc in Neuroscience at the University of Sheffield before moving to UCL to study for a PhD with Steve Wilson. Dr Norton then spent ten years as a postdoc working in EMBL in Heidelberg, the Helmholtz centre in Munich and the CNRS in Gif-sur-Yvette France. Dr Norton moved to the University of Leicester in 2012, accepting a lectureship position in the department of Biology. He is now an associate professor of Animal Biology in the department of Genetics and Genome Biology, and acts as programme team lead for Genetics, Zoology and Biological Science degrees in the School of Biological Sciences.
His research interests include using zebrafish to model some aspects of human diseases, including ADHD, autism and early-onset eye disorders. He also investigates ways to improve fish welfare in the laboratory.

Sarah Kittel Scheinder

Sarah Kittel-Schneider has studied medicine at the University of Würzburg, Germany and has undergone specialisation training for general adult psychiatry in the Department of Psychiatry, Psychosomatic Medicine and Psychotherapy at the University Hospital in Würzburg, Germany. She was leading  consultant and vice director of the Department of Psychiatry, Psychosomatic Medicine and Psychotherapy, University Hospital Frankfurt/Main, Germany. After that, she was vice director and professor of Developmental Psychiatry of the Department of Psychiatry, Psychosomatic Medicine and Psychotherapy at the University Hospital in Würzburg, Germany. Since June 2023 she is Chair of Psychiatry at the University College Cork and consultant General Adult Psychiatry in the Mental Health Service South Lee Cork, Ireland.

She is interested in neurodevelopmental mental disorders that appear in childhood and adolescence and then persist into adulthood. She is especially focusing on  research of biological pathomechanisms of ADHD (attention-deficit-/hyperactivity disorder) and affective disorders (bipolar disorder and major depression) using human-derived cellular models and investigating blood-based markers. Furthermore she is investigating psychosocial and biological risk factors of peripartum mental disorders, again with a focus on mood disorders and ADHD, meaning mental disorders during pregnancy and breast-feeding period and their impact on the development of children of affected parents.

Tobias Banaschewski, MD, PhD

Professor Tobias Banaschewski, MD, PhD, is Professor of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the Medical Faculty Mannheim of the University of Heidelberg and Medical Director of the Department of Child and dolescent Psychiatry of the Central Institute of Mental Health in Mannheim, Germany (since 2006), and Deputy Director of the CIMH (since, 2014). He studied psychology and medicine at Marburg University, Germany. He is Chair of the European Network of Research on Hyperkinetic Disorders (EUNETHYDIS) and member of the European ADHD Guidelines Group; Coordinator of the German guidelines for diagnosis and treatment of ADHD in children, adolescents and adults; Past President of the German Society of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Psychosomatics and Psychotherapy; Directory Board of the German ADHD network. Currently he is inter alia Co-Coordinator of the EU-funded project „environMENTAL - Reducing the impact of major environmental challenges on mental health“, Coordinator of BMBF-funded Project ESCAlife (Evidence-based, Stepped Care of ADHD along the life-span) and Coordinator of the German Guidelines for Diagnoses and Treatment of ADHD in Children, Adolescents and Adults. His main research areas are: a) developmental trajectories of child and adolescent psychiatric disorders with associated risks and protective factors, b) their underlying etiological and neurobiological mechanisms, c) development of individualized treatment strategies, including pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment options, and d) development of evidence-based clinical guidelines. These topics are addressed through highly interdisciplinary work carried out in the context of national and international research networks and multicenter studies.

Jonna Kuntsi

RESEARCH GROUP LEADER

Jonna Kuntsi is Professor of Developmental Disorders and Neuropsychiatry at the Social, Genetic and Developmental Psychiatry (SGDP) Centre, Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience. She first joined the Centre as a Lecturer, following training (BSc, MSc, PhD) and positions at University College London and the Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children. Her research focuses on attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and other conditions and traits that often co-occur with ADHD.
A major focus currently is the ADHD Remote Technology (ART) research programme, for which Jonna and team have received over £4 million funding from the UK Medical Research Council and European Commission for projects on a range of topics (e.g. ART-transition [include link to: https://www.kcl.ac.uk/research/art-transition] and ART-CARMA).
She is Co-Chair of EUNETHYDIS - the European Network for ADHD – and a member of the associated European ADHD Guideline Group (EAGG). Jonna is on the steering committee/Principal Investigator in several other international research networks, including the International Multi-centre Persistent ADHD Collaboration ‘IMpACT’, the ECNP ADHD across the Lifespan Network and the ECNP Digital Health Applied to the Clinical Research of Brain Disorders Network. She actively collaborates with patient support organisations, including ADHD Europe and the UK ADHD Information and Support Service (ADDISS), and with SMEs, such as Empatica and The Hyve.
