  • Marta Ribases

    Senior researcher

I am a senior researcher and I am currently leading the Psychiatric Genetics Unit at the Group of Psychiatry, Mental Health and Addiction of the Vall d’Hebron Research Institute in Barcelona.
I have 20 years of comprehensive experience in biomedical research, with special focus on Psychiatric Genetics. My research interest is in the interplay between genetics and environmental factors and their role in psychiatric disorders through lifespan. My main objective is to contribute breaking the stigma associated with psychiatric disorders and showing them as biological conditions by using high-throughput -omics data and multiple approaches, that include Genome-Wide Association Studies (GWAS), candidate-gene studies, analyses of transcriptome and microRNA profiles with microarray technology and deep sequencing, methylome and microbiota profiling.
I hold accreditations for research (2019) and advanced research (equivalent to Full Professor; 2023) of the Catalan University Quality Assurance Agency (AQU) and the I3 certification (Incentive for the Incorporation and Intensification of Research Activity) of Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación. For more than 7 years I was consultant at the Open University of Catalonia (UOC), I’m currently Associate Professor at the Department of Genetics, Microbiology and Statistics of the University of Barcelona and collaborate in different master's and doctoral programs.
I receive permanent, competitive and overlapping funding from Spanish and European public institutions and have been awarded with multiple Human Resources competitive contracts. I participate in stable research structures, being co-PI of the group 27 at the Centro de Investigación Biomédica en Red en Salud Mental (CIBERSAM) and member of the "ADHD across the lifespan" at the European College of Neuropsychopharmacology Network, the SGR Consolidated Research Group in Psychiatry, Mental Health and Addiction (2017SGR1461 and 2021SGR00840) or the Innovation Network of New Technologies in Mental Health (TECSAM), from the Generalitat de Catalunya.
I am active member of international consortia and PI and/or workpackage leader in different interdisciplinary projects. I successfully supervised multiple PhD and master theses and participated in different PhD Commissions and evaluation panels for research proposals from national and international institutions.
