Catharina Hartman

RESEARCH GROUP LEADER

Dr. Catharina A. Hartman is Associate Professor of psychiatric epidemiology at the Interdisciplinary Center of Psychopathology and Emotion Regulation (ICPE),  University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG), the Netherlands. The overall objective of her research team’s work is to advance mechanistic understanding of the onset and (long-term) course of childhood-onset psychiatric disorders. The leading hypothesis in her work is that childhood psychiatric disorders accelerate the onset of other psychiatric and somatic disorders, throughout the lifespan and across generations. The aim of her work is to unravel such transactions -at the genetic, neurocognitive or behavioral level, and in relation to environmental exposures. Catharina Hartman’s team uses data from longitudinal studies, partly run under her own supervision. Catharina has (co-) authored over 400 original peer-reviewed papers and has a broad international research network.

    RESEARCH GROUP LEADER

Andreas Reif is a German Psychiatrist, who received his training at the University Hospital Würzburg, where he also did his residency and later on became Vice Chair. In 2014, he took over the position of Chair of the Department of Psychiatry, Psychosomatic Medicine and Psychotherapy at the University Medical Center Frankfurt, where he is also full professor. Andreas Reif’s clinical and research interests include affective disorders (TRD, bipolar disorder, suicidality) and adult ADHD; his research is translational in nature and revolves around the ideas of precision psychiatry, i.e. identifying the best therapy at the exact time for a given individual patient. He has published more than 650 original papers and reviews, also in the most prestigious journals such a the New England Journal of Medicine, Lancet and Science, and has an h² index of 97. He is an internationally renowned speaker and active in several learned societies, especially the German Psychiatric Association (DGPPN), where he is an executive board member, as well as ECNP, where he is president elect. Also, he is involved in several clinical guidelines and outreach programs.

  • Oliver Grimm, MSc

    senior psychiatrist

I am a senior psychiatrist with a MSc in medical computer science. I like to combine clinical work, cutting-edge research and training for early career scientists and clinicians.

    Research:

    - I study how the brain works in mental health conditions using advanced brain imaging techniques.
    - I run a clinic for adults with ADHD and other mental health issues.
    - I research how the brain's reward system, mood, and impulsivity are affected in various conditions.
    - I look at how physical fitness relates to mental health and brain function.
    - I use artificial intelligence to analyze language patterns in mental health.

    My Research Methods:

    - Brain imaging (MRI scans)
    - Measuring physical characteristics and daily experiences
    - Analyzing language patterns with computer programs
    - Using specific medications to study brain responses

    Opportunities for Students:

If you're an international student interested in neuroscience, psychology, or medicine, I welcome you to get involved! We offer:

    - Internships
    - Lab visits
    - Master's thesis projects
    - PhD positions
